A - says that red giant stage is dependent on mass
B - says that it depends on "red giant stage's" mass if a star will become a bh,dwarf or neutron star. Misplaced modifier.
C - Says that "a star's mass" goes trough a red giant stage, not the star.
D - Correct.
E - same as C. The mass of a star passes trough a red giant stage, not the star.

Zipper great explanation! What do you think about the pronouns in these options. How do you think we can use the way IT is used each option to eliminate the wrong options.Zipper wrote:A - says that red giant stage is dependent on mass

This is how I would eliminate based on the pronoun Itlogitech wrote:Zipper great explanation! What do you think about the pronouns in these options. A - ruled out as there is no pronoun to qualify the noun 'mass' or the subject 'star'.
B - "depending on its mass, a star will compress" - this is wrong, the noun should be the antecedent to the pronoun
C - Same reason as B
D - Correct
E - Even though the pronoun 'it' is used properly - it is used for the wrong subject "mass of the star".
