To be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame, a player must both have outstanding career statistics and have been retired from baseball for at least five years. However, if players engage in grossly unethical activities, such as fixing games, they cannot be eligible.
If a player with outstanding career statistics retired this year, what can be logically inferred?
* (A)
The player will be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in five years.
* (B)
The player will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in five years if he did not committ gross ethical violations.
* (C)
The player's career statistics may have become more outstanding had the player not retired.
* (D)
The player will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in five years.
* (E)
The player will be inducted into the Hall of Fame if baseball fans decide he is eligible.

Eligibility criteria for Baseball Hall of Fame,To be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame, a player must both have outstanding career statistics and have been retired from baseball for at least five years. However, if players engage in grossly unethical activities, such as fixing games, they cannot be eligible.
1. Outstanding career statistics
2. Retired from game for atleast five years
3. No unethical activities during tenure or after tenure of being a player.
If a player with outstanding career statistics retired this year, what can be logically inferred?
Condition 1 - met; condition 2 - not met; condition 3 - no info given.
So we have to look for options which tries to meet condition 2 or comments something on condition 3.
* (A)
The player will be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in five years.
C2 - satisfied.
Talks about C2 but talks nothing on C3. Contender.
C2 - satisfied* (B)
The player will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in five years if he did not committ gross ethical violations.
C3 - satisfied
Thus correct.
* (C)
The player's career statistics may have become more outstanding had the player not retired.
Out of scope since the passage doesnot talk anything about how the player's statistics could be dethered or could become outstanding.
Unconditionally too extreme.* (D)
The player will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in five years.
Out of scope since the fans decision is not discussed in the passage.* (E)
The player will be inducted into the Hall of Fame if baseball fans decide he is eligible.
Hope it helps.

Pranay

It went like this. When I was trying to register on BTG I tried with various usernames that match with my name but couldnot find any. So, I was thinking what could be the name. Then, an add popped up. The add was of Pepsi and Pepsi those days use to have a song 'oye oye bubbli aaja bubbli. ..', if you guys remember, and bubbli caught my attention. Then I tried to register with bubbli but could not as this name was already registered on BTG.
Then, not knowing what to do, I randomly typed i's on keyboard and hit enter and voila .. it registered
![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/grin.png)
Then, I have to count the number of i's in my own name and then remember it.

@Rohu, I will try to contact him and see what could be done .. till then I will enjoy it.

Something fishy here..itsmebharat wrote:To be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame, a player must both have outstanding career statistics and have been retired from baseball for at least five years. If a player with outstanding career statistics retired this year, what can be logically inferred?
* (B)
The player will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in five years if he did not committ gross ethical violations.
This is a conditional reasoning Q. According to the argument:
Sufficient ---> Necessary
1) HOF ---> Stats + 5yrs ..... (1)
2) UA ---> (not)HOF ..... (2)
3) HOF ---> xUA ..... (3) contrapositive of statement 2
Here, HOF = Hall of Fame, UA = Unethical Activities, Statistics = outstanding career statistics, (not)HOF = Not inducted in Hall of Fame, 5yrs = 5 years retirement.
From (1) and (3):
Sufficient ---> Necessary
1) HOF ---> Stats + 5yrs + xUA ..... (4)
From question stem and option (b):
Sufficient ---> Necessary
1) xUA + Stats + 5yrs ---> HOF ...... (5)
So statement 5 is basically a mistaken reversal of statement 4??? Isn't that wrong?
But the other options are definitely not correct. So am confused
