I have yet to even prep for the GMATs but I recently lost my job in this economic meltdown.
What is a good guideline for timeline? i.e.:
* how long should it take to prep for the GMAT, given that I no longer have a job. is there a rule of thumb as to how many hours you typically need?
* the b-school websites typically have 2-3 deadlines. is this purely for early and regular admission?
* what is the general application timeframe?
Thanks so much in advance for any feedback.
Too late to apply for 2009 admissions?

Dear rygee,
How much time you need to prepare varies greatly based on your raw aptitude and ability to take the test. I would suggest you try and take a practice test to see how you do without any real prep. I think it is possible you could be ready in 3-4 weeks if you spend all day, every day on preparing. I think you could apply this year and shoot for second round deadlines. Second round is not a disadvantage, but you don't want to apply in the third round if you can avoid it.
How long it takes to complete an application is also a function of how well you write and can pull all the components together. I would say it will take you at least 2-3 weeks for the first school as you will need to order transcripts and line up your recommenders.
Good luck,
Lisa
