the Pulitzer

Source: Kaplan verbal workbook

Unlike the Pulitzer, which is given for a specific work, an author receives the Nobel Prize for a lifetime's achievement in literature.

(A) an author receives the Nobel Prize for a lifetime's achievement in literature => INCORRECT
(B) an author's lifetime achievement in literature receives the Nobel Prize => INCORRECT
(C) the Nobel Prize is awarded to an author's lifetime's achievement in literature
(D) the Nobel Prize is awarded for a lifetime of achievement in literature
(E) the Nobel Prize is awarded for a lifetime of achievement in literature by an author => INCORRECT

I believe that Pulitzer is a noun. https://www.thefreedictionary.com/Pulitzer
"The Pulitzer" is an adjective. "The Pulitzer" can not be compared with "an author" or "lifetime achievement". A and B eliminated.

Is "the Pulitzer" a the Nobel Prize? I am not sure.

"The Pulitzer" is a noun; it refers to the Pulitzer Prize, which is parallel to the Nobel Prize here. Choice D is correct, because it has the proper comparison. C incorrectly states that it is the author's lifetime of achievement that receives the prize, when it is illogical to say that a lifetime gets a prize; the author gets the prize as a reward for the lifetime of achievement.
