Chances at top mfin program?

by Marvin » Fri Sep 19, 2014 3:33 am
I plan on attending a U.S. mfin program in fall 2015 and would like to know what my chances are at getting accepted to a top mfin program, such as MIT and Claremont Mckenna.

My background:
Graduated from a top ten undergraduate b-school (a public university) in the States with honors and distinction
Majored in finance and accounting, and minored in maths and economics
GPA: 3.8
One-year business technology consulting experience at a top consulting firm and a three-month internship at a startup brokerage firm in Chicago
GMAT: V38, Q50, 730, 96th percentile

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Marvin,

Given your great grades and GMAT score you are very competitive for top MFin Programs. Your high quantitative score and math-focus helps since MFin's are quantitatively rigorous.

You can compare yourself with the class profile - https://mitsloan.mit.edu/mfin/admissions/class-profile2/

Agreed with Michael - you've got the pieces for a great run! Make sure you REALLY showcase your time at the brokerage firm. Try to tick off as many financial knowledge boxes as possible (without looking like you're trying too hard) as possible because that component will help you stand out from others without financial services experience!
