Hi, For those using normal way to solve this problem, I think that we can avoid huge calculation by just replace Cost by letter C and put it in the final formula: Income: 54*1.2C + 6*0.5C Cost: 60*C Then percent =(Income-cost)/cost = (54*1.2C + 6*0.5C - 60*C)/60*C. We can see that we can eliminate C...

One way to avoid quadratic equation is:
z^2 = x^2 + y^2 --> z^2 = (y + 2)^2 + y^2 = 2y^2 + 4y + 4 = 2(y^2 + 2y) + 4
we know that 48 = y^2 + 2y. Therefore, z^2 = 2.48 + 4 =100 --> z=10

Maybe, I'm misreading the question?
Absolutely you misread the question. it asks you to find the lowest number of unhappy researchers not the lowest number of happy ones.

Thank you, dav35, first, and foremost... i would recommend that you revisit the basics rather than work on practice tests. you want to save that material until you are ready to develop your test taking strategies. What do you mean by 'the basics'. I actually review concepts every time I made mistake...

Hi eladshush,
Thank you for your detail posting.
Would you please let me know how do you practice questions (for example how many PS, DS, RC, SC, CR per time)? After how many days you do a test like a real test and from what source?
Thank you, dude.

Dear all,
I think up a solution:
As some of you said, 2a + a sqrt(2) = 16 + 16 sqrt(2)
--> a sqrt(2) x [1 + sqrt(2)] = 16 x [1 + sqrt(2)]
--> a sqrt(2) = 16, and we already know a sqrt (2) is hypotenuse.
