I also used backsolving, but knowing the divisibility rule would have been much faster. I would've used the divisibility rule if I didn't doubt myself due to 9 having the same divisibility rule.

Lets approach this with nice numbers: Of the families in City X in 1994, 40 percent owned a personal computer: lets say there are a total of 100 families and 40 of them own a computer. in 1998 that num was 30 percent greater than it was in 1994, or 130% of 40 1.3*40=52 total number of families in C...

How did u get 125-0.25p???? Out of 100 Newspapers, p were sold @1 dollar each raising a revenue of $p and (100 - p) were sold @ 1.25 dollar each raising a revenue of $(125 - 1.25 p). Thus total revenue = $(p + 125 - 1.25 p) = $(125 - 0.25 p). Sorry, this may be annoying, but I'm still not seeing wh...

IMO answer would be C. (2) is not sufficient alone because the rate of drainage for tank X cannot be found from the information given. (1) is not sufficient because it gives no rate of drainage for either tank. Using both, we know that the rate of drainage for tank X is double that of tank Y.

x^y + x^y = can be an odd integer. We know that x^y is odd from the first statement and adding two odd numbers can result in an even number.
y/x could be false depending on what numbers you choose.
The answer would be D - II and III only.

I think the answer is B. (1) is insufficient because it gives you two answers - 4 or 9. (2) only gives you 4 as a viable answer choice.

Answer would be C. Both (1) and (2) independently are insufficient because each leaves you with formulas with two unknowns.

I did this the same way as described by the above posts, but looking at the answer choices it looks like 99 could be the only choice. The ratio of 7:2 indicates that the original number would have to be divisible by 9. 99 is the only answer choice on the list that fits the original ratio.
