surgical wounds

12. The only purpose for which a particular type of tape is needed is to hold certain surgical wounds closed for ten days—the maximum time such wounds need tape. Newtape is a new brand of this type of tape. Newtape’s salespeople claim that Newtape will improve healing because Newtape adheres twice as long as the currently used tape does.
Which of the following statements, if true, would most seriously call into question the claim made by Newtape’s salespeople?
(A) Most surgical wounds take about ten days to heal.
(B) Most surgical tape is purchased by hospitals and clinics rather than by individual surgeons.
(C) The currently used tape’s adhesiveness is more than sufficient to hold wounds closed for ten days.
(D) Neither Newtape nor the currently used tape adheres well to skin that has not been cleaned.
(E) Newtape’s adhesion to skin that has been coated with a special chemical preparation is only half as good as the currently used tape’s adhesion to such coated skin

why not A

answer is C

If wound recovers in 10 days there is no need to weare tape for 20 days.
Existent tapes are adgevise enougth - they adhere for 10 days.

Premise:The only purpose for which a particular type of tape is needed is to hold certain surgical wounds closed for ten days

Option A: Most surgical wounds take about ten days to heal.

It Strengthen the marketting effort that most of the wounds will be covered by it. Opposite answer

(C) The currently used tape’s adhesiveness is more than sufficient to hold wounds closed for ten days.

If currently avialable tapes itself is more than sufficient for 10 days who the hell will go and buy a new one...

It weakens....that marketting strategy that people will buy it because it holds wound for 10 days..

Hope it clarifies ur doubt.

I am confused on a second thought though, is C adding any new info about currently used tapes, based on this fact alone I would like to opt out C, E makes some sense but brings new info, specially coated skin, can not we say weaken the argument whatever little. TestLuv please respond.

The key phrase is at the beginning of the argument: "The ONLY purpose...is to hold wounds closed for 10 days". And yet the salespeople are claiming that the new tape will heal wounds faster. Choice C, then, seriously tosses a heap of doubt onto the argument. Choice E is irrelevant because we already know from the stimulus that a) the only purpose of these kinds of tapes is to hold wounds shut for 10 days, and b) this new tape is of this kind.
