Picnic

Of the 84 parents who attended a meeting at a school, 35 volunteered to supervise children during the school picnic and 11 volunteered both to supervise children during the picnic and to bring refreshments to the picnic. If the number of parents who volunteered to bring refreshments was 1.5 times the number of parents who neither volunteered to supervise children during the picnic nor volunteered to bring refreshments, how many of the parents volunteered to bring refreshments?

A.25
B.36
C.38
D.42
E.45

number of parents volunteered to supervise = n(A) = 35
let number of parents volunteered to bring refreshments = n(B)= x
=>number of parents neither volunteered to bring refreshments nor to supervise = x/1.5 = 10x/15 = 2x/3
number of parents volunteered to both = n(A and B) = 11
total number of parents = 84 = n(A)+n(B)-n(A and B)+ neither
=> 84 = 35+x-11+2x/3
60 = 5x/3 => x = 180/5 = 36
Answer "B"

total=84
S=35
B=11
R=1.5N
R=?

84=35+1.5N+N-11
N=24

R=(3/2)*24=36

ANS IS 36

84=35+1.5N+N-11
N=24 ??

In the above the value would come out to N=30

So answer would be 1.5*30 = 45
