Work History and Salary on Application

by ajgovier » Fri Nov 26, 2010 12:53 pm
How exact do you need to be? I'm filling out Part I of Kellogg's application and wondering if I need to include any part-time jobs when the application specifically requests the applicant to list 'full-time' experience. And more curiously, how do I find my salaries, bonuses, and commissions to the nearest dollar? I have all my W-2s, but each year may have one or two positions incorporated into it. Would love an expert reply. Thank you!

ajgovier,

You should be as exact as you can be and err on the side of inclusiveness, but don't list part-time jobs when they ask for full-time jobs. For salaries, bonuses, and commissions, give them your best estimate or, if you are unsure, check with the company's HR department.

Good luck,

Wanted to bump this one because I'm wondering about one of my own applications (now submitted). I couldn't remember my ending salary from my second-to-last job, so I entered what I thought I remembered it was. Now that I've gone back and checked, though, I've realized that what I reported on my app was $3000 higher than my actual ending salary.

Will this make me look bad if they end up checking with my old employer about my salary history? And if so, should I contact the school and ask to correct the error (even though the application deadline has already passed)?

You could send them a one-sentence email explaining the discrepancy and apologizing. Since the gap was small they won't assume you were trying to BS them.

Hope this helps,
