Sentence Correction -- need advice

by muralidhar » Sat Oct 03, 2009 10:14 am
I took my GMAT exam today and ended up scoring 650. Q48, V32. This is similar to my scores in GMAT Prep1 and Prep2. I scored 650 and 660 in those.

I am planning to retake and I have no doubt that to cross my target score of 700 I need to improve on my verbal score. In the 2 official prep test here is the average break down of the questions I answered incorrect:

On average:
-- 4 incorrect in RC
-- 2-4 incorrect in Critical reasoning
-- 7-8 incorrect in Sentence completion.

I have read the Manhattan GMAT SC guide. But still SC remains my weak area. I have done 90 of the SC problem on OG. It is the only area in verbal I spent time on. But still I am barely able to get them 50% correct. Please, share your thoughts on what I could do to improve my accuracy in SC. Also, please advise if I should spend more time in CR and RC as well to reach my target score of 700

Hi muralidhar,

It would be useful to know what types of questions you're missing within Sentence Correction. There are about six main errors that are tested on the GMAT in regard to sentence correction (idioms, parallelism, etc.), so I suggest finding the specific area that needs improvement and focusing on that.

You might also want to consider diversifying your study materials. Seeing how to approach a problem from a different perspective can definitely help.

Good luck!
