Study Tips for taking GMAT second time?

by malizadeh33 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 3:15 pm
Hello Everyone,

I took the GMAT in the middle of December and scored a 480. I studied from Kaplan, Princeton Review and OG 11. I am planning on taking the GMAT again in about 6 weeks. My goal is 600+, but I am not sure how to prepare since I have already gone through all of my material. Unfortunately I don’t have the resources to take a prep course. Does anyone have suggestion for studying the second time around. Thanks!

The main question you need to ask yourself is: what's going to be different the second time? You need to figure out how you studied the for your first attempt and make some changes; otherwise, your score will stay the same.

My opinion is that you aren't "done" with the OG if you're scoring below, say, 650. If you truly know how to do every problem in the OG in the best and most efficient way possible, and you have some sort of rule or takeaway from every problem in the OG (verbal, too!), you WILL score well on the GMAT. My advice is to dust off the OG again and get back to work; you aren't "done" until you have virtually memorized every problem, and the process to arrive at the right answer, and the reasoning why the wrong answers are wrong.

Good luck!

Thanks for your advice. Based on your comment I'm assuming you feel if I can master the OG, obtaining a 650 on the GMAT is possible?
