Dear Lisa,
I'm a female Asian-American, 21 y/o.
I've got a BA in Biology from University of Missouri with a 3.26 GPA (I got a D and a D+ in my last semester but I graduated in 3 years).
Do you think that these two Ds will hinder me from gaining admission to MBA programs? I got them due to particular stressful situations and from my inexperience, but I've learned a lot from that.
I've been president of a student club at university, I've been a member of two more and I've been a Supplemental Instruction teacher for a semester in physics. I can fluently speak english and japanese and I'm learning italian. i've lived half of my life in japan, 1 year in Scotland, one in italy and 6 in the US.
My GMAT score is 660 and I'm currently without work experience. Which schools would you recommend me? Do I have a shot at a top30 school?
thansk a lot in advance!

Dear mjjking,

Those grades, alone, will not cause the admissions committee to reject you. However, if they are in quantitative coursework and your quant score on the GMAT is not high, then the admissions committee will be concerned about your quantitative ability and that could result in a rejection. Without any work experience, an average GPA and a low GMAT, I think it is unlikely you will be admitted to a top 30. Not to be mean, it is just the reality this year with the expected increase in applications due to happenings in the US economy.

If you want to apply for business school this year, I would suggest looking at programs with a large percentage of students without work experience and GMAT averages in the 630-670 range.

Good luck,
Lisa
