Gmat Club Test SC

In most industries the rising cost of support services does not hurt business owners, but it does pass a greater financial burden on to customers. In the legal profession, for example, a climb in the cost of court reporting in recent months has forced many attorneys to raise their hourly rates.

has forced many attorneys to raise their hourly rates.
has made many attorneys raise their hourly rates.
has meant that many attorneys are being forced to raise their hourly rates.
is forcing that many attorneys to raise their hourly rates.
is meaning that many attorneys are raising their hourly rates by force.

OA:A
What is wrong with B ?
In fact, what is the difference between A and B is beyond my understanding.
Can anybody please explain.

It is the meaning of the sentence that is different in A and B. they are not grammatically incorrect.

B says made the attorneys raise their fees. Here you need to understand that you make a decision considering various factors, etc but it does not indicate that you made the decision under some compulsion.

Here, you have to bring out that the attorneys were forced to make the decision.

A captures the meaning best, but B does not. You made a decision and you were forced to make a decision are different, in fact totally different.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for your reply.
I don't agree with you here.
Meaning wise A and B are same.
X made you do Y and X forced you to do Y are the same things meaning wise as well.

he made me drink medicine (after taking much efforts and persuasion)
he forced me to drink medicine

ds nt make difference!!

B uses bare infinitive (where 'to' is omitted from the verb)
