BTG Community,
I am looking for sample essays asked in the MBA applications. Every school has some common topics (why MBA, why now, short term and long term goals etc) and some uncommon ones (professional achievments, a day in your life, etc. etc.)

I would appreciate if people can provide links to free sample essays for reference purposes. This would be highly beneficial to all MBA aspirant candidates.

Thanks

One resource that might help: http://clearadmit.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Not quite what you're looking for, but in the right direction. Smile

I am trying to compile the list of sites that have good collection of sample MBA essays for reference purposes. I am currently working on my application and if I can the style and format of some good essay's it helps me. At the same time this thread will benefit others who are on the look out of similar stuff.
I definitely do not want to go through the consultant route as I know that I have the potential to write good stuff myself. Hope this makes some sense?

This isn't a free resource, but think about buying the book 'How to get into the top MBA programs', http://www.beatthegmat.com/books.html

Really great tips for structuring your application essays.

My $0.02:

Make friends online who have been admitted to b-schools or who already are into MBA.

You can ask them for a sample essay (of course you need to be good friend of his/them) ... it might sound stupid but I think it would work

PS: the book mentioned by Eric in last post is wonderful. You can also think of subscribing online magazine from BusinessWeek for MBA.. (sorry forgot the name.... Sad )

I agree. It's a personal choice whether to go the consultant route, but I liken it to whether a business is willing to spend on marketing. Sure, some businesses can come up with compelling products. Whether or not you're the right person to market those products- whether you have the right skills to do it- is however an entirely different matter that should be decided case-by-case.

Anyway, you should at least buy a book. Most of them have sample essays. That aside, few people are comfortable posting their essays online, I think, because they are so incredibly personal. At best someone might share them with you if you are good friends. Otherwise, I personally wouldn't do it.

Good luck with your application!

I know that it may sound silly, but I am happy that I have completed my essays for the schools I am applying to. The essays looked daunting at first glance, but after spending considerable time in thinking about how I want to approach each question, gradually I was able to produce content. Talking to people who have undergone similar exercises and getting hands on couple of MBA essays book helped.

I got the essays reviewed from a friend who was once part of an MBA Adcom and an alumni of the school where I am interested most. Both these people gave useful critique and feedback.

I did not go through the consultants route and went ahead with my authentic voice. Only time will tell how I fare.
