Simple PS from PR

by sushilmore » Mon Sep 01, 2008 10:15 am
HI,

This is a problem from PR Cat

A kennel houses 7 times as many mixed-breed dogs as purebred dogs. The ratio of purebred dogs to the total population of dogs in the kennel is
A. 1 to 6
B 1 to 7
C 1 to 8
D 6 to 7
E 7 to 8

I solved it as follows -

Let pure bred dogs be P and mix breed be M
so, P = 7M

Ratio is P/P+M = 7M/7M+M = 7/8

is this correct?

Ans is C
M = 7P so P/P+M = 1/8

Thanks Anju.

I knew the answer but can u let me know how is M=7P equation correct?

As per the language,
kennel house 7 times mix bred dogs as pure bred

Which sounds like, 7M=P.

"7 times as many mixed-breed dogs as purebred dogs" means 7 times the number of pure bread. So if P is the number of purebred then 7P would be the number of mixed-breed dogs.
